ATI CREW PUT FORTH AN AWESOME EFFORT IN SOUTH BOSTON
April 13, 2002 - Baltimore, MD

ATI Performance Racing traveled to Big Daddy’s South Boston Speedway for the Textilease 300 Saturday April 13, 2002.

After a week of traveling across the country the ASA crews, drivers and fans were exhausted but ready to race in the condensed one-day show at South Boston.

JC and the crew used the long practice on Saturday to try a few different setups. For qualifying the setups were taken off and JC tried to go fast and fast he went picking up 2/10ths of a second to place 16th out of a 33-car field. “Qualifying has been on the top of the list for us all of last year and this season,” said Beattie.

At the start of the race Beattie wasted no time in moving up to 12th position with the car working well on the outside. Qualifying kept JC out of the first wreck but not the second wreck. Someone started a chain reaction in front of the #09 that caused Beattie to get tapped and turned backwards in the middle of the turn with about 20 cars heading right at him.

The #09 was stopped and out of trouble until a competitor, unable to stop, took off the left front and entire nose of the ATI Performance Products Chevy Monte Carlo.

Following a long stop in the pits the #09 was back on the track with an entire new front left suspension minus the front fenders and nose. The crew was prepared for the situation with a new front left and right suspension ready to bolt on and a new radiator. A track blocking red flag helped the ATI Team immensely because ASA allows teams to work on the cars under the red flag.

“The crew was amazing and got the car back on the track as fast as possible,” commented JC.

Joey Clanton held off a late race charge by Kevin Cywinski to capture his third consecutive victory in 2002.

An awesome team effort by the entire ATI Performance Racing Team salvaged a 21st place finish which will keep the ATI #09 in the top twenty for season points. The team has a few weeks off to regroup and rebuild for the next race on May 4-5, 2002 at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, FL.
