MISFORTUNE STRIKES AGAIN IN WISCONSIN
June 9, 2002 - Baltimore, MD

Wisconsin International Raceway was host to Round 7 of the ASA National Championship with Oneida Bingo & Casino sponsoring the 300 lap event.

JC and the team spent Saturday making adjustments on the # 09 ATI Performance Products/Chevy Monte Carlo and working on race setups. This was the first visit to the track so the team took advantage of all the practice laps they could get.

When the green flag dropped for the start of the race Sunday afternoon, it didn't take long for disaster to strike. Beattie Jr was making a pass for position when the car was hit from behind and spun sideways down turn 4. JC managed to keep the car from hitting anything, but he could do nothing about the cars behind with nowhere to go. One car hit the front while another took out the rear.

"It's just one of those things you have to be prepared for," commented JC Beattie. "When you put thirty guys on a race track, there's bound to be some rubbing" And as everyone knows, rubbin' is racing.

The race was not over and after a 30-minute spell in the pits, the hard working ATI pit crew managed to get the car back on track to grab valuable championship points. The car was never the same and the boys had to settle for a 26th place finish.

Wisconsin native Kevin Cywinski went on to take the top spot with series leader Joey Clanton coming in a close 2nd.

The 2002 ASA Racing Series returns to action on Sunday, June 16 at Elko Speedway in Elko , Minnesota. The Minnesota Governor's Cup 300 presented by Coca Cola will take the green flag at 1 p.m. (Central) and will be telecast live on TNN.
