TOTAL TEAM EFFORT AT IRP
October 1, 2002 - Baltimore, MD
The Texas Roadhouse 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park marked the 19th
event of the 2002 ASA Racing Series. JC Beattie Jr. and ATI Performance
Racing had to bounce back from mechanical failures one week ago at Illiana
Motor Speedway. And bounce back they did.
Beattie and Co. found themselves with their backs up against the wall
after a broken sway bar slashed the right front tire during the first
practice session and caused JC to make contact with the outside retaining
wall. The crew went to work on the #09 and missed all of the second practice
session and only made a few laps at the end of the third practice session.
Beattie Jr. made it out to qualify and timed 31st, but the crew still
had final repairs and adjustments to make before the green flag flew.
After an unbelievable effort from the entire ATI Performance Racing Team
to repair the damaged car, the #09 was able to start at the rear of the
field. Beattie took the green flag at the tail end of the 38-car field
and embarked on a mission. He charged through the field and found himself
running with the leaders on the lead lap. At one point JC was running
in the top ten and stayed in the top fifteen for most of the race. During
a late race caution ATI Performance Racing decided to make a pit stop
and take on right side tires. The stop dropped JC back to 21st position,
but he fought back and gained four more spots in the closing laps to finish
17th overall. The ATI crew gave 110% all day long and JC drove the wheels
off the Chevy Monte Carlo. He gained a total of 21 positions.
"The entire team gave an awesome effort and never backed down,"
commented Beattie. "We busted our butts to get that car ready and
it paid off because it ran great."
